Due to the 2010 May flood, many contractors and wood artisans alike were overwhelmed with a great workload, rebuilding our city. Gaertner Cabinet Company was honored to work long hours to assist in the Grand Ole Opry House reconstruction. Gaertner built-to-fit and installed custom cabinetry, recessed oak wall-paneling and decorative millwork. Gaertner had 60 days to complete their portion of the project and it was produced on time.
In the artist reception area and administrative offices, the oak for the paneling, cabinetry and millwork was chosen to match the front half of the House. Gaertner developed a patina-aged finish with the original feel and look of the Ryman Auditorium. The reception desk front panels and side desk countertops were inset with aged, distressed leather. The original brass mailboxes were salvaged and incorporated into new millwork. The Opry Member Gallery was a new feature - brass name plaques surrounded one of the three climate controlled display cases (shown in the photograph).
You will find Gaertner's artistry in all 18 dressing rooms. The rooms are numbered #1 - #19 - there is no room #13. The countertops and cabinetry match themes unique to each dressing room design (such as, Minnie Pearl, Roy Acuff, Women of Country...). The design of the "Wagonmaster" room, which had been designed in part by Opry member Marty Stuart prior to the flood was re-created in the renovation. During the demolition, the 2-inch thick oak countertop was smashed with a sledge hammer. Gaertner Cabinet Company was able to reuse half of the original top and repair the rest with salvaged material from the Carter family barn - you cannot see the repairs, nor the damage. The room is fabulously finished out with walnut crown molding.
The Green Room was completed with oak cabinetry, stone countertops and matching movable buffet table. This inviting, beautifully designed room hosts the artists and many backstage guests and a primary point of interest is an iron chair rail marking the level the flood waters reached.
The makeup area was finished with custom, panelized, maple cabinetry with floating granite countertops.
In the first aid and copy rooms, Gaertner Cabinet Company introduced their new line of commercial grade cabinetry for non-public areas (designed for lower-price point with the same construction quality as their high-end cabinetry).
